Closeup of the remaining ‘mum’ in my first Sogetsu Ikebana floral arrangement

October 23, 2024 - Vol. 17, Issue 45

I’m continuing my series on faith and positive psychology. And, in gratitude and thankfulness, I acknowledge two friends with whom I was privileged to spend time this past week. One was a refreshing long early morning walk and the second was another equally long meaningful conversation by phone one evening. When friends take time to be fully present, they are gifting us (among others!) with the power of hope – thank you!

My first Sogetsu Ikebana arrangement is now in its third week. I’m struck, yet again, by the beauty of transformation. What was once a vibrant display of goldenrod, silver dollar eucalyptus, and the emerald green bells of Ireland has evolved into something new, yet still breathtaking. The undying gold of the one remaining mum seems to whisper secrets to me of the transformative power of time and distance.
