Welcome to Eyes on Christ, a weekly newsletter from my heart to yours. If this is your first time, I wish you a happy and healthy New Year and invite you to browse ‘I have a Dream’ World Peace Rose Garden in honor of Dr. MLK,Jr. day. You’ll read why I began writing (in 2008!), find a summary of writings since Aug. 2023, and more. As always, thanks for reading!

Readers who financially support Eyes on Christ can read my writings on the website, anytime. Free readers get previews and some articles are open. If my newsletter helps you with your job, consider using professional development funds to upgrade your subscription. As always, thanks for reading and supporting.

Thanks to a good friend and supporter of Eyes on Christ, I’m pleased to invite you to a free Great Decisions (Foreign Policy) conversation series that will take place on Mondays from 7:00 - 8:00 pm Pacific Time, via Zoom, January 29 through March 18. You are welcome to join us each week or to come based on your availability or your interest in a particular topic.  The 2024 Briefing book ($35) may be bought from the Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions website where you can also browse the topic descriptions for the entire series. (I don’t receive any proceeds from the book sales.)

January 29 - Mideast Realignment - 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm Pacific Time (via Zoom)

Leader: Daniel Wehrenfennig, PhD., Founder and Executive Director of the Center for International Experiential Learning (CIEL). The United States and Middle East are at a crossroads. In spite of a reduced presence in the Middle East, the U.S. still has significant national interests there and the area is a key arena for global power politics. Can the U.S. continue to defend its interests in the Middle East and globally with a lower level of military and political involvement, or should it recommit to a leading role in the region?

Now, my article for this week.

Today’s story is sparked by my study of Ecclesiastes (as part of a women’s group) and the removal of a tree that inspired last summer’s Sisu, an origin story: the oak of righteousness. A visual reminder, of a protective providence and priceless legacy for the young man with the unique name, the oak is no more. My second Sisu story is about a common life journey from innocence to experience. I’ve included my audio reading of it. Enjoy!
