Eyes on Christ | Vol. 20, Issue 18 | May 13, 2026 | Eastertide (Day Before Ascension Day)

Welcome to Eyes on Christ, a writing ministry exploring nature, culture, and the everyday stories that shape our faith. This is my twentieth year writing Eyes on Christ. All glory to God. Every story we share is a bridge, connecting hearts, deepening faith, and increasing community. We’re the quiet voice that reminds even the most distracted believers that worship can happen anywhere, anytime. 🌉💖✨

We continue our series, How Traditions Think: Memory, Text, and Authority — albeit, tongue in cheek. 😀 We follow Mrs. Hummingbird who’s become Hummy Mummy; her eggs have hatched and we expect the little ones to take their first flight soon after Ascension Day anniversary (May 14th this year). The feature image link is to a 2 min video.

The Hatching of Memory

Hummy Mummy and the Ascension

The eggs hatched the Friday before Mothers Day, tiny hearts beating in the warmth of their geranium basket. Mrs. Hummingbird, unbothered by the news or the world, fed them with the same quiet persistence that had sustained her nest through the wind and the rains. Now, a few days before the anniversary of Ascension Day, when Jesus ascended bodily into Heaven, forty days after his resurrection, we wait with Hummy Mummy, as we have begun to call her. We imagine the fledglings flitting above the basket, their tiny iridescent wings catching the light of a world still spinning.
